The 'Eye Love' Collection
Serendipity inspired my Eye Love collection. While at the Tuscon Gem Show, I saw a hand-carved eye cameo and felt an immediate connection. I asked the carver to create a cameo in the image of my eye as a connection to my third eye. It was not until a year later that I learned of the history of the Lover's Eye jewelry genre.
Giving a loved one a portrait of your eye dates back to 1785 when King George IV, then the Prince of Wales, gifted Maria Ann Fitzherbert a miniature portrait of his eye. Their relationship was forbidden due to British Law. His Eye portrait was The Prince of Wales's secret symbol of his love for her. This law did not stop them from being together. The lovers were secretly married, and the two continued to gift each other with miniature portraits of their eyes. While the marriage did not last, the "Lover's Eye" trend gained popularity from 1790 - 1820.
Today, my Eye Love collection is a modern token of eternal love. Worn as a lover's or third eye, any Eye Love piece can be customized in the image of your eye (third eye) or your loved ones' eyes. The eye cameo's different tones of blue, grey, and black are formed by the depth of the carving, creating a one-of-a-kind cameo.
Custom Eye Love cameos can be ordered on request, and custom carvings are charged an additional $880. If you are interested in more information, please email katarina@anakantarina.com. All custom Lover's Eyes are final sale.
