AK's 2025 Jewelry Trends

The age-old perception is that fine Jewelry is classic and timeless, an heirloom that we pass on to the next generation enriched with our stories. While this is true, trends in jewelry date back to when we first adorned ourselves with shells, beads, and, dare I say, glass. Today's cornucopia of designers and styles is not immune to Fine Jewelry trends, which sometimes last a year or more.

I confess my aesthetic is a blend of Jackie O and Sophia Loren—two women who both wore classic clothes and fabulous Jewelry. So, in that spirit, here are my jewelry trends for 2025.

Snake Motifs

2025 is the year of the Snake or Serpent; both apply. This mystical, revered, and often feared animal has inspired wonderful Jewelry dating back to Mesopotamia, and today, it evokes images of Bulgari's Serpenti necklaces, bracelets, and watches. Snakes are associated with transformation through the shedding of their skin, and the Chinese believe the Snake possesses wisdom, introspection, intuition, and adaptability. Indeed, the Snake is the perfect talisman to ring in the New Year!

Color Stories

At this writing, Pantone was 2 days, 14 hours, and 12 minutes away from unveiling the color for 2025. It is the moment when fashion, Jewelry, and interior designers redefine their 2025 color palettes. Defining one's wardrobe and jewelry box with precious items in magenta and chartreuse can be fun, but both colors are hard to wear for certain complexions.

Color is the new black, and incorporating colored gemstones into one's jewelry look is the perfect way to express individuality, style, and moods through pairing tones together. Sapphires in blues, pinks, and orange paired with the greens of emeralds and tsavorites mixed with the luminescence of sea tones in opals can be added to your ear stack, neck mess, and even an alternative gemstone to the traditional diamond engagement ring.

We cannot leave color without a nod to the continuing trend of enamel jewelry. First found in the Mycenaean civilization, 1400 BC, this technique of baking colored powdered glass and minerals into Jewelry has held its place over centuries. While we all have a soft spot for the beautiful enamel of the Art Deco period, enamel is now a part of modern design.

The Bold and The Beautiful

Here, we pay homage to my style icons, Jackie O and Sophia Loren, who are both strong women who never backed away from a statement piece of Jewelry. They wore their fine pieces with classic tee, jeans, blazer, or cocktail dress. The Jewelry makes the outfit, whether a large gold or diamond hoop, layered bangles, bracelets, or that one statement ring you wear daily. Invest in that one piece that makes you smile every time you notice it on your body, and you

always receive a compliment from others. It is these significant pieces that my mother always said she felt 'naked' when not wearing them. They become a part of you.

Make it personal

I started my career as a bespoke jewelry designer, and my goal was always to create pieces that reflected my character and my client's style. I even add a personal hidden detail to my designs as a wish or talisman for my client. Personalization will now trend in 2025. Fine Jewelry is art and adornment, telling our narrative to the world. It is our talisman, our armor, and our statement. Initials, charms, and family birthstones will continue through the next year as we wear our stories in layers of necklaces.

In this trend, I will have to repurpose our tired pieces and those we have inherited into pieces that speak to our current sensibilities and aesthetics. If done well, repurposing our Jewelry into a new, loved piece is more affordable than buying new Jewelry, which is the epitome of sustainability.
