Danish architect and designer Arne Jacobsen (1902–1971) was a defining figure of 20th-century modernism. His remarkably diverse body of work left an enduring impression on architecture and design, both in Denmark and around the world.

Jacobsen approached every project as a complete creative vision. For landmark buildings including Aarhus City Hall, Munkegaard School, the SAS Royal Hotel, the National Bank of Denmark and St Catherine’s College at Oxford, he considered every element—from the surrounding landscape and architectural structure to the furniture, lighting, textiles and fittings within. The result was a series of beautifully balanced, cohesive environments.

His influence extended far beyond architecture through iconic designs such as the Egg and Swan chairs and the Cylinda Line tableware collection. Less familiar, though equally revealing, are Jacobsen’s intricate textile and wallpaper patterns, travel watercolors, botanical drawings and landscape designs, which reflect his lifelong fascination with nature.
